Life in the Theatre

About Me January 17, 2013

This is me.

This is me.

Everyone has a specific memory that they can remember with absolute clarity. It will inspire them in times of trouble, and help lead them to what they want most in life.

My memory is of when I was in the fifth grade. My class was taking a trip to Kansas City to see, “The Nutcracker Ballet”. It was my first ballet. I wore a sparkly red dress with shiny black tap shoes. My mom had helped me curl my hair that morning too. I was even allowed to wear a little of my mom’s lipstick.

As soon as we arrived at the theatre, and I stepped through the revolving doors I felt that I had been transported into another world. The experience became all the sweeter once the ballet actually started. The lights dimmed, the crowd became hushed, the red velvet curtains opened, and it began. For two hours I was wrapped up in the beautiful music flowing through the room, the graceful dancers on stage, and the ever changing scenery.

Once it was over I felt special, like I had been let in on a secret that no one else knew. I could not stop smiling all the way back to school. From that point on I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to be someone who got to be in that world every single day. I wanted to make others see that they should appreciate the theatre world and what it brings to society just as much as I did and still do.

My name is Michaela Perrine. I am an undergraduate at Northwest Missouri State University who is majoring in English and Business. Throughout my life I have been involved with performing. During high school I was in Speech and Debate where I medaled in Poetry and Original Works. I have been involved in two major productions. The first was called, “When Shakespeare’s Ladies Meet” in 2012, and the other was for the 2012 Freshman/Transfer show entitled, “Wiley and the Hairy Man”.

Whether I am performing or watching I still feel that I am in a world of my own, that I am in on a secret that most do not have the chance to know. The goal for my blog is to share that world, my world, with those who may not fully appreciate the performing arts. Or to share my experiences with people who already love the theatre as much as I do.
